These quick and easy garlic knots bring together all the elements needed for a crowd pleaser–garlicky, buttery and soft bread goodness. The best part? They come together in half an hour from start to finish.

For those who are wanting to add some homemade breads to their repertoire, these quick and easy garlic knots are a great way to begin! Many bread recipes require a lot of time to knead the dough and then let it rise, but not this recipe. This recipe is so simple that I can make them on a weeknight while our main dish comes together, or when a surprise guest pops in for dinner.

The key to avoiding long rise times? A healthy dose of yeast. I am a huge fan of all things sourdough, but traditional sourdough is a much longer process. I believe there is certainly a time and place for meals that take an intricate process to create; however those meals do not happen on busy weeknights.

While I will always be an advocate for all things sourdough, sometimes I need a quick bread to accentuate a meal or feed a crowd. And about 99.9% of the time that I need to bake bread I don’t remember to start the process 24 hours in advance as most sourdough recipes require. This is where instant yeast and quick breads really shine.

Serving Size 12

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup + 2 tbsp warm water
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Herbs de Provence or any italian seasoning of your choice
  • 3.5 cups of all purpose flour
  • Garlic Butter Topping:
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  • 2. Pour warm water into a mixing bowl and add the yeast.
  • 3. After the yeast has become bubby add in the oil, honey and egg. Mix to combine.
  • 4. Once the wet ingredients are well combined, add in the salt, garlic powder, italian seasoning and flour.
  • 5. Using a dough hook, gently mix together until a soft dough forms. Once the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl, turn out onto a floured surface. The dough will be very soft.
  • 6. Roll dough into a log. Cut into twelve equal pieces.
  • 7. Roll each piece into a rope and then fold into knots. Continue until all pieces have been shaped.
  • 8. Place the knots onto a greased baking sheet and let rise for up to 10 minutes or until oven is preheated.
  • 9. While the knots are rising, make the garlic butter topping.
  • 10. In a small saucepan melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, add a pinch of salt and minced garlic. Stir gently until the garlic becomes very fragrant. Remove from heat.
  • 11. Once the oven has come to temperature brush the knots with half of the garlic butter and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • 12. Remove from oven and immediately brush the knots with the remaining garlic butter.
  • Serve warm with your favorite marinara sauce. Enjoy!
